History
Foundation and Early Years (1959 - 1969)
St. Anthony's Church, Basavanapura, was established in 1959 through the dedicated efforts of Father Sebastian, then the priest of Chikmanhalli Church. The land for the church and the initial construction were generously sponsored by Natamaia Chinnapa, a benefactor whose contribution was instrumental in the establishment of the parish.
In 1964, Father Kondareddey took over as the parish priest, shepherding the fledgling community with devotion and care. His tenure was followed by Father Ronald in 1969, who continued to build on the foundations laid by his predecessors.
Growth and Development (1970 - 2003)
The church saw significant growth under the guidance of Father J.B. Parbhu SJ, who began his service in 1975. His pastoral leadership was succeeded by Father Arokya Swamy, and later, Father Ronald returned for a second tenure, further solidifying the community's spiritual and structural foundations.
Father Stanny Baptist's tenure marked another period of growth and stability for St. Anthony's Church. In 2004, Father Maxiem Fernandez took on the role of parish priest, bringing new energy and vision to the parish.
Following Father Fernandez, Father Kalyanam and Father Archie SJ served the parish, each contributing to its development with their unique pastoral styles. The presence of dedicated Jesuit priests like Father Cyril SJ, Father John SJ, and Father Mohan SJ enriched the spiritual life of the parishioners.
Establishment as a Fully-Fledged Parish
(2006 - Present)
In 2006, St. Anthony's Church was officially recognized as a fully-fledged parish, transitioning to the administration of the Diocese. Father Edwin was the first priest to lead the parish under this new status, followed by Father Louis Yedya, who served for six years, providing stability and growth.
Father Sampath's tenure, though brief, was marked by significant contributions, followed by the dynamic leadership of Father Kiran in 2017. Under his guidance, the parish continued to thrive, adapting to the changing needs of its congregation.
As of 2023, the parish is blessed with the dedicated service of Rev. Fr. Alphonse Bhaskar R. His ongoing leadership continues to inspire and guide the community, ensuring that St. Anthony's Church remains a beacon of faith and service in Basavanapura.
